Dominik Glodzik, PhD — Faculty

Dominik’s research focuses on applying statistical algorithms to understand, treat, and detect cancer early. He completed his PhD in Computational Biology and Machine Learning at the University of Edinburgh, followed by postdoctoral work at the Sanger Institute with Sir Mike Stratton and Serena Nik-Zainal, where he pioneered supervised machine learning methods to decode mutational processes in cancer genomes. His most widely used algorithm, HRDetect (Nature Medicine, 2017), identifies homologous recombination deficiency from genome sequencing data, expanding the population of patients eligible for targeted therapies. He was later recruited to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he led development of a cancer genome analysis platform and oversaw sequencing of the institution’s first 100 cancer patient genomes, uncovering treatable genetic fusions in rare pediatric cancers. He is now faculty in the Pathology Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
